Use this step-by-step process to help you understand your body's dietary needs and cravings.
Step #1: Hungry?
- YES - What do I want? What does my body need? Eat something and enjoy it!!
- NO - What do I need?
- comfort
- relaxation
- sleep
- stress release
- escape
- other
- don't know
- If you're not hungry and want to eat anyway, go to Step # 2.
Step #2: What do I want to eat?
- Something healthy? Have that choice available, but don't force yourself to make this your choice.
- Something satisfying?
Step #3: Eat!!
- Take a portion and put the container away.
- Take the portion to a comfortable place.
- Center yourself (take a few deep breathes and focus on the food you are eating).
- Enjoy your eating experience.
Step #4: How do you feel?
- Satisfied - good for you!
- Still unsettled (go to Step #1) .
- Guilty and frustrated (go to Step #5).
Step #5: Get on with your life.
