We compliment weight loss, monitor our appetites, and shrink ourselves to fit some kind of standard.
I wish we could all be the size we actually are. One size doesn’t fit all – because there are as many sizes as there are women.
Let’s look closer at the size of our hearts, the width of our souls, and the length of our spirits.

Body acceptance is the art of appreciating our bodies in order to better appreciate ourselves; this enables us to treat our bodies and ourselves with respect in all areas of wellness. In recognizing that there is diversity in our bodies just as there is diversity in people, the mission of the Body Acceptance Coalition is to assist individuals in accepting this diversity and work toward treating their bodies in ways that maximize overall health and well-being. The Body Acceptance Coalition is a collaborative effort between faculty, staff, and students throughout the Illinois State University Community.
You may think your shape isn't good enough. You may have problems with food. You may have issues with exercise. Or you may know someone who does ... the good news is that it doesn't have to be that way...
The Illinois State University Community is trying to help individuals move from an attitude of body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, food preoccupation, and exercise obsession to body acceptance. It is important to note that despite misconceptions, this dissatisfaction applies to both men and women. So, whether you need help with food, would like to learn how to exercise in a healthy manner, or would like to educate others on body acceptance, we have something for you! Please review the information in the Nutrition section of this web site or contact a member of the coalition for more information.
