Your Illinois State University Redbird ID card functions as your meal card and is encoded with the following:
The Flex Dollar and University Debit Accounts are debit (declining balance) accounts that work like a checking account . . . you start with a balance and each time you make a purchase, the cashier swipes your ID and the amount of your purchase is subtracted from the balance. The accounts differ in where they can be used and the amount available.

The University can encode the following on your Redbird Card in these circumstances: |
If you have purchased a meal plan, it will be encoded onto your Redbird ID card and will provide you access to the dining centers. |
If you have purchased a meal plan, Flex Dollars will be encoded on your Redbird ID Card in a declining balance account. |
If you have opened an account at the Redbird Card Office in the Bone Student Center, you can add money to your University Debit Account. Money may be added via the iCampus portal, 3-D machines around campus, the Redbird Card Office, or at Student Accounts. Learn more about adding money to your card. |
